School Board

I currently have two children at Floreat Park Primary School in Year 1 and Year 3, and I also have very fond memories as a student at the school during my primary school years.

Working in international trade and investment, I am a strong advocate of the benefits of international engagement and encouraging our young people to understand and get excited about the opportunities that this can bring to them personally, as well as the wider community.  I am also passionate about the importance of a strong educational base and supportive community during the early years of development.

I love engaging in a range of school activities and feel privileged to have the opportunity to contribute (and give back) to the Floreat Park Primary School and school community as a board representative.

Having been appointed as Principal to Floreat Park Primary in October 2016, I am really looking forward to contributing to the School Board. I believe that school leaders have a powerful influence in leading change and creating a stimulating and positive learning community with teachers being the critical factor in student success. In line with the school’s vision and values, I also have strong beliefs in educating ‘the whole child’ and in working with parents and the community as partners in the education of their children. I bring to Floreat a wealth of experience drawn from 28 years in the Western Australian education system including three principalships, the last being at Kapinara Primary School in City Beach, two deputy principalships and teacher appointments at five schools. Ironically my first position was at Floreat Park teaching Year 7 in Room 7! Between 2014 – 2016, I was a Principal Advisor at the Department of Education’s Statewide Services, supporting principals and their schools across the state with school improvement and developing whole-school approaches to literacy and numeracy.

I have been involved with Floreat Park Primary School since we moved to the area four years ago and have three young children, two of whom happily attend the school.

I am a medical doctor and academic and am a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA). I divide my working life between the WA Health public pathology service (PathWest) and as a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia, where I am heavily involved in teaching, curriculum design, assessment and educational leadership and research. I currently coordinate year 1 of the Doctor of Medicine course at UWA and hold a range of leadership and committee positions within the university and external professional organisations.

I come from a family of teachers and have a lifelong connection and passion for public education as well as a desire to constantly look at innovative ways to improve. In addition to my medical qualifications, I hold a Master of Education and Master of Health Management, both of which have given me a range of knowledge and skills that would be useful to the board. I have been recognised as an outstanding educator at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, receiving multiple awards for teaching students and specialist trainees, and have been accepted as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Through these varied roles, I have extensive experience in how to be part of a leadership team, as well as how to strategically implement new programs and ensure compliance with external accreditation requirements. I have effectively collaborated with stakeholders including government, funding agencies and most importantly, students and educators. I am delighted to have the opportunity to be able to contribute to the school community being an effective member of the Floreat Park Primary School Board.

I am a parent of two children (Year 4 and Year 1) at Floreat Park Primary School and I have been a part of the school community since 2017. I have over 10 years’ experience in the higher education sector specialising in curriculum, learning and assessment design and development. I currently work at Edith Cowan University and emerging trends in education, particularly in relation to technology enhanced learning, are central to my role. I am passionate about how we can best leverage the technology to deliver the highest quality student learning experience.

I have been an active member of the Future Technology at Floreat Committee, a sub-committee of the Floreat Park School Board, since its inception. It has been a privilege to work with the team involved in bringing the Floreat Park Primary School 1:1 Technology Program to life. Being able to share my experience and passion with the committee has been rewarding, especially knowing that this will benefit, not only my children, but all children at Floreat Park, now and into the future.

I look forward to working with the school board and being a part of the conversations instrumental to enhancing teaching and learning for all staff and students. I will bring a parent voice to these conversations, as well as provide a perspective that is future-oriented given my role within the higher education sector. I am honoured to have the opportunity to help the school continue to provide a transformational educational experience for all at Floreat Park Primary School.

I have been a part of the Floreat Park Primary School community since 2017 when my eldest daughter started in kindergarten.

I have been actively involved with the P&C for several years and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the school community.  I am delighted to now have the opportunity to work with the school community as a Board Member.

In my professional life, I have worked in the water industry for over 20 years, in a variety of roles, including construction, project management, operations, contract management, strategic planning and senior management.  Having such a variety of roles has given me extensive experience in developing and implementing Business Plans, approving expenditure to ensure budgets are adhered to, managing change, and working collaboratively with stakeholders and the community.  I have also undertaken Australian Institute of Company Directors training which provided me with a comprehensive overview of the role and duties of a Board.

I am passionate about creating an environment where our children are encouraged to have a healthy balance between academic, sporting and social achievements.  I am excited to be able to support the school community in providing this balanced, positive learning environment.
